It did have some hippy prog-folk musical vibe to it

I thought those Donovan Leitch childrens songs the most embarrassing part of the movie.
I'm surprised Zeffirelli who loved the high drama of opera agreed to their inclusion

I generally quite like some of Donovan's stuff, but have to agree with you. It just didn't suit, despite the film's pseudo-hippy pretentions.

I'm not surprised Donovan didn't make the cut on the original/Italian version of the film.
