Now on Video!

I am elated that Breezy has finally come out on DVD. It's been available on VHS for some time, but it was very rare. I started collecting movies in 1978 (by the hundreds) and it took me until the mid 90's to come up with this movie on tape, and now it is on DVD. Widescreen even. So cool!

I had some interesting reactions to watching this movie. Now that I am 47, my take on this movie is totally different than when I first saw it, which was back in 1973 in a movie theater. I absolutely loved Breezy back then. Indeed, I used to quote from this film all the time. It had some great lines. That was back when I was more like Breezy. Now at 47, I still enjoy the movie, but I am more like Frank. Some of those lines I used to quote now seem cliched and hackneyed to me. "Please don't teach him how to play dead..." "Hello my Life"... "I never had to wake up in the morning and find myself next to someone who made me wish I that wasn't there. But I bet you have...I just bet you have..." GAWD!! Was it the times, or was it me?? Or have I just become like Frank - stuffy and old?? These lines seem ridiculous to me now, almost embarrassing. I could never use them now!

Still I have to say, I just love this movie. Even though I can't seem to get into it like I used to, I still like the spirit of it. Was this Eastwood's first directorial effort? Surely, some of these lines had to have seemed cliche even back then??!!

If anyone else has had a May-December experience with this movie, I would love to hear about it!!!!

I always thought that Play Misty For Me was Eastwood's directorial debut, a terrific film that's far better and less mysogynistic that Fatal Attraction. I was always into older men (father figure thing), but it worked for me, so when I saw "Breezy" on TV over the years, it did ring a loud bell in me. At the ripe old age of 40, I'm happily married to a riper, older 53 yr old. Would love to see Breezy again for the fun of it.

Breezy marked Eastwood's third film as a director (after Play Misty for Me and High Plains Drifter), but it was his first directorial effort in which he did not star.

I loved the character that she portrayed. Free spirit, full of life. Is it just me or is Kay Lenz one of the most beautiful women on the planet?

reply

No, Cruegger, it's not just you; I first saw Kay Lenz in "Fast Walking", and not only was she 'one of the most beautiful women on the planet'- but she is incredibly hot, as well... I don't think anyone can play characters such as she has unless you also feel most of those characteristics- so she's undoubtedly a self-confident, lively free spirit...

I've since looked up her credits on IMDB, and am looking forward to seeing more of her! (If my video store out here in the boonies has any of them!)

She was absolutely beautiful in Breezy. I think Beineix may have thought of her when he casted Béatrice Dalle for the lead role in Betty Blue/37°2 le matin, another story of crazy and free love.

If you have HD television and have the Universal channel. Breezy has been shown on their network in High Def.(Last shown on June 1st 2006)Universal should air it again before the summer is done.

"Please don't teach him how to play dead..."

It's more of a line that would would be hissed nastily as one flounced out to to make a haughty, dramatic exit rather than be whispered soulfully as Breezy did.

"Hello my Life"

Yeah. Cringe, big time.

"I never had to wake up in the morning and find myself next to someone who made me wish I that wasn't there. But I bet you have...I just bet you have..."

The sentiment was appropriate fr the situation.

My favorite line by Frank

She's 39 but you'd have to stretch her on the rack to get her to admit it.

If you have a Netflix account, you can watch Breezy on-line.

I love Jesus, but I drink a little.

I just watched "Breezy" on XFINITY's Streampix tonight.

I'm not sure how I missed this movie all these years, but I really loved it.

And, as has been said throughout the various posts, Kay Lenz was absolutely stunning at 20 years old.
