weird ass flick

If it was today that guy would be arrested and put on a sex offenders list and the girl would be called a skivy stoner.

Yep, things sure have changed since then. Movies reflect their own decades, and sex offenders were largely holed-up in X-rated movie houses and weren't on everyone's radar like they are today.

I don't think he was doing anything illegal. I don't recall that she depicted herself as being under the age of consent.

I rented this since I am a Kay Lenz fan. But I didn't like the film all that much.
The leads had little chemistry and the dialogue seemed forced. The cinematography was gorgeous though, and the music was beautiful. But I didn't feel the film had anything to say. It was a bit slow even for the time period, and offered little original material.

Why would he be arrested? She was over 18.

You kidding? This is Hollywood, remember. The difference today would be that the young girl really is hooking up with him for materialistic and career reasons, and he really is hooking up with her as an interchangeable young plaything he can dominate to fuel his ego and narcissism, both of which have overcome any healthy connection between sex and love in his plastic life.

She mentions graduating from high school the year before so that would place her age at about 19 years old. Enough to raise some eyebrows but not much else. No crime here, move along folks.
