Is this the movie?

I remember when I was younger I watched a Werefolf movie where a father and son go into the woods and the father gets bit by the werewlf and become a werewolf. I remember VERY minor details. I remember the werewolf looking for the son and coming into the son's bedroom and throwing the matress off of the bed frame looking for him. I also remember in the end, they killed the werewolf by bashing him in the head with a cane with a silver handle. Is this it? Can anyone help me?

It sounds like it, but in this movie, the werewolf is shot about 87 times before dying. Although now that I think about it, the boy talks earlier about what would kill a werewolf, so regular bullets shouldn't have killed it... Hmm. I know the father had a cane, but I don't think it was used in his demise.

I'm watching it now - in the opening scene, the father had a walking stick with a big knob on top, I don't remember if silver was mentioned - when the original werewolf attacked him, he fought it with the stick, but what killed the original werewolf was falling on a wooden stake (does that kill werewolves?). We see a glimpse of him, now in human form, with the stake passing through his back and out his chest. Not sure why the stake was there, maybe a broken sign post. I don't know if the son saw the dead man - when the sheriff came, he was very excited describing how the werewolf attacked and his father fought it and killed it by beating it with the head of the walking stick. Of course, neither the father nor the sheriff (or anyone else) believed the son.

Edit: now I'm not sure if the boy said "werewolf" or "wolf" after the first attack, but the father must have known it was at least a wolf, but I guess after seeing it dead in human form, he couldn't believe it was anything but a man.

I think the OP is combining memories of two different movies. This was the movie with the boy and dad going on a wilderness trip and the dad becoming a werewolf, but the head bashing of the werewolf to death with a silver cane came from the old The Wolfman movie with Bela Lugosi. (both of which movies have been played on the Svengoolie show in the last few weeks.)

Bela Lugosi was Dracula. Lon Chaney Jr was the Wolf Man in that old Wolf Man movie. Everyone knows that

Bela Lugosi portrayed the werewolf that bit Larry Talbot and turned him into the Wolfman. And Larry beat him to death with his silver tipped cane.
Everyone who actually saw the movie knows that.

Thanks. I saw the movie but probably wasn't paying attention during that scene
