Surprisingly bad

I admit I had perhaps too high expectations for this film, after having read the praising reviews here. Also, I thought that this film may be the Italian attempt at creating their own Godfather. But really, the film turned out to be very limited.

Long stretches of film are devoted to boring conversations, where the camera takes turns at showing the faces of two men from the same angle over and over again. I have nothing against long conversations in film, but these should be at least moderately intriguing. Instead of that, the conversations were filled with over the top emotional outcries ("he is my brother", "get me back my daughter"). The only interesting lines were delivered by the chief of police who was a kind of weird character.

What bothered me the most was the girl. What the hell were the filmmakers hoping to achieve to make the girl into this nymphomaniac hippie? Was it the 1970s style attempt at shocking the conservative viewer by showing a girl who is ready to have sex with complete strangers? Without the girl, or if she had been more normal, the film would have retained its seriousness. But the girl really blew it.

I admit some of the characters were quite good and well played, especially the main hitman and the mafia boss. But overall, I expected more.

I agree completely. The behavior of the girl seemed totally out of place, taking into account the circumstances. I found this so annoying that I couldn't finish the movie.

The girl was high on drugs and alcohol.

She was the daughter of a crime boss. I think that's why they made the character so screwed up, actually like everyone else in this movie. The only person who seemed normal was the anti-Mafia chief. The line that summarises her behaviour best was what she says to Lanzetta after he told her her father was dead.
