Anoushka Hempel now owns film

Anoushka Hempel, now Lady Weinberg*, bought all the rights to Black Snake. For obvious reasons, ;o). This means that there will be no legal DVD release. Nor any boradcasts on TV.

Hard to blame the wife of a peer not wanting this kind of trash out there.

I'd be careful trying to sell any DVD allegedly from Japan or anywhere else. Since Lady Weinberg bought the rights in 1998, any DVD transfers will have to be made illegally from film prints. Trying to sell them in the US or UK will almost certainly result in a lawsuit and possibly criminal prosecution.

*She married wealthy British businessman Mark Weinberg in 1980.

It is available here in the UK as part of the splendid box set released by Arrow Films.

"Anoushka Hempel now owns film" -- I saw this and thought maybe she'd purchased all of cinema. She should get around to that, too.

If censorship is her goal, I think it's bloody rotten of milady to withhold this movie from further distribution. Granted, we ALL of us have done work in our lives (of any sort) we weren't quite so proud of. But she might just as well have bought the rights to dreary "Scars of Dracula" or that rather less than spectacular "Space:1999" episode she was in... I mean, where does the censorship end???

One can only hope milady capitalizes on the obscure popularity of a vehicle like this and lets Anchor Bay or Blue Underground have a crack at distributing it sometime (signed, limited editions, anyone? Oh, you bet they'd move!).

But to actually BURY the film...tsk tsk...that smatters of shame!

Can't milady rise ABOVE that (and make a buck on it at the same time)???

Well Arrow Films have released this on DVD in the UK (uncut, I believe) - perhaps Ms. Hempel no longer holds the rights? It has also been suggested that she acquired the rights to Pete Walker's TIFFANY JONES, too.
