Scarface (1983)

Does anyone else see the similarities between this film and De Palma's "Scarface"? The minority who rises to prominence by starting at the bottom of the crime/drug trade, kills his boss (I think he does in this film, its been a few years since I've seen it) ends up the kingpin and has a mansion that is almost identical to that which Al Pacino gets in Scarface. The first time I saw this movie, I immediately checked to see when it was made and was shocked to see it was 10 years BEFORE Scarface (which I must point out is one of my all time faves). Anyone else notice this?

Not to burst your bubble but Scarface itself was an update of Scarface from 1932 directed by Howard Hawks and Black Caesar takes it basics points of Little Caesar to 1970's blaxploitation. (Both movies are much different from the originals in their adaptation such as the language and sex.) These stories are basically an up and coming gangster takes over a boss they no longer respect and their eventual downfall.
