Same Holland, different Van der Valk...

I watched this film because I'm a fan of the Van der Valk television show that was made around the same time.
Both Piet Van der Valks inhabit what seem to me to be identical "worlds" - I guess there are only so many ways to depict the Holland of the early 1970s onscreen, so it's the same "world," I guess - but the similarities end there.
The Piet Van der Valk of this film is a very different character than the Piet Van der Valk of the television show.
I strongly prefer Barry Foster's Van der Valk to Bryan Marshall's but I suppose that could just be chalked up to me being a fan of the show before seeing the film.
I'd be interested in opinions of others who have seen both the show and the film.
Thanks.
