Who was your favorite character in this film?

Who was your favorite character in this film? Mine was Milner, I thought he was the best character in the film, I don't understand why Paul LeMat didn't have a very successful acting career like Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfuss did

reply

I really liked Curt. He had the most interesting night and he went on to do what he wanted in life.

reply

I think mine was Terry (the Toad). I liked when he backed into that car and blamed it on the other guy!

reply

I consider Toad to be my second favorite character after John Milner, I thought the scene where Toad backed into another car and blamed it on the other guy was hilarious! I also liked the scene where Toad was trying to score alcohol at the liquor store

reply

Funny thing is Curt's sister was Laurie and that's my real nickname.

reply

Curt was my favorite. I could relate to his character the most. Not a nerd like Toad, not the cool guy like John, not the popular All-American guy like Steve. ...Just that middle-of-the-road guy trying to figure out his station in life.

reply

Harrison Ford's '55 Chevy ...pity...

reply

Curt definitely. I was kind of the same way: didn't feel ready to leave home. Though I actually spent 2 years at a local university before finally deciding to go somewhere else since art in Iowa is hard to study let alone find a decent job there.

I like Curt as I see myself in him. Terry was also a good character.

I agree with the OP: John Milner and Carol were my 2 favorite characters in this. LeMat always knew how to play this type of character, and I feel his storyline just outshines the rest!

I'm just a troll... A well read troll, but a troll nonetheless!

Top 3 Characters:
Curt
Terry
Carol

I would have liked to see actor Paul LeMat have a massive career like Ron Howard and Richard Dreyfuss did

It is a really hard pick since this film is filled with great characters. My favorite is probably John Milner. I mean he has this "bad ass" image but it turns out that he is in fact a really nice person.

We humans possess one absolutely amazing ability: imagination. Use it...

I like Bob Falfa. I sort of like seeing Harrison playing this malicious force of nature that Falfa becomes. He's everything Milner fears come to life.

The Pharaohs were hilarious. The leader (Bob Hopkins?) was really cool to watch on screen. Loved him in the sequel.

Toad, no doubt, for the trials and tribulations, trying to swagger and make it work. The undefeatable optimism. "Ah, Toad, your glasses, man..." He had me at crashing his Vespa into the garbage can...and then you notice it in the background at the end of the night as he's talking to Debbie.

Runner up would be Carol. The comic relief, deflating Milner from time to time, glomming onto him and threatening to tell Holstein he raped her etc....great stuff.

Next would be Falfa. Maybe it's unfair, but I believe his badass character much more than Milner's. He's just got that crazy look in his eye, a different girl every time you see him, and that wicked '55 with a roll cage in it.

Haha, I was gonna say Ants. For some reason he reminds me of a 60s Vin Diesel.

reply

Who was Ants?

reply

The pale, doughy-faced big Pharoah that wanted to drag Curt around behind the car haha. Something about his dumb-but-threatening expression seemed "Vinny"

reply

Okay I remember Ants, I thought his character was funny but way underused, I also liked that Hispanic guy who was with them but I can't remember his name

reply

Milner and Falfa were good. I thought Milner was a total smart-ass and made the movie. Also, Curt and Terry were great.

I don't think I can choose. Milner was cool and had a hot ride. I relate more to Curt though. Terry made me laugh a lot though. I would hang out with all three of those dudes. Can't choose.

reply

Debbie would be my choice she was really cute an smoken hot i love her hair with the bow in it

reply

John Milner no doubt. He was as cool as cool can be. All the scenes that involved him and Carol, were very entertaining and hilarious. One of my favorite scenes, was the part where he finally got to meet Harrison Ford's character, and both of them begin to trash talk... REAL trash talking, no stupid f-bombs or something like that. Paul Le Mat's acting was really good; underrated actor for sure. As for the hottest babe in the film... Debbie Dunham, baby!

reply

I find it interesting how Paul Le Mat didn't become a successful actor like Richard Dreyfuss and Ron Howard yet he did a great job as John Milner, I totally loved his scenes with Carol, they were IMO the highlight of the entire movie

My favorite character was Joe, the lead Pharaoh. He has that simple hillbilly logic as evidenced in the following exchange with Curt as he (Curt) attempts to leave the Pharaohs when he slides off the car hood.

Joe: Hey, a, where ya' going?

Curt: Ahh, nowhere.

Joe: Well ya' must be going some place,I mean ya' left here didn't ya?

reply

Toad, but I definitely see myself as a Curt 

reply

Agreed, Drac. John Milner had a lot of the best scenes in the film. Those two you mentioned particularly stand out.

I read somewhere that George Lucas said that Curt was the character he most identified with, but I think he was being a little disingenuous there. I reckon he saw himself as Milner. And probably rightly so, at least back when he was Milner's age.
