Would it be possible to film this nowadays?

My guess is: no.

It's impossible for the mind of the average people today to accept that a grown up man can be friends with a ten year old girl.

And if God hears all my questions
Well how come there's never an answer?

Hollywood wouldn't compromise and do something good, either.

Both of these factors would definitely hinder making such a film today.

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar and doesn't.

I agree. Other comments on different threads talk about how some scenes were "creepy". I just didn't see it. He didn't look at her in a sexual way at all during the entire film. On the other hand, when I see a grown man and a young child together, I don't automatically think he's a pedophile.

The only scene I found creepy was a scenes towards the end when they are swimming and also the scene where Alice is in the bedroom by herself with no shirt on.

I think where it falls into creepy is because she is a young female child and she is not his child and she is half naked. I remember in the 70s when I was a child it was not unusual for parents to let their female children go around the beach with no t shirt or top. But I don't see that as very common these days. Even myself, I am a parent and a father to a girl who is Alices age, I feel uncomforable when my own kid walks around with no top on even where there are no guests in the house. I think the cultural norms are different now.

Can this really be the end..to be stuck inside of mobile
with the Memphis blues again.

Yeah, I also don't think you a new film maker would be able to make a film and story like this without being attacked. That being said, it's not as if child exploitation and pedophelia did not exist in the 70s. Those problems have always been present and haunted society.

Well what about Logan?

reply

But that's a comic book movie, so there's an infantilization at play there.
