I think the song's called "Remember When". Lyrics are something like this:

Oh, remember when we thought we had forever
didn't it make you feel secure?
We used to think that we had forever,
now I'm not so sure.
***

Is that the one you mean?

reply

Yes thats the one, brilliant music, firs the film perfectly!!

It was sung by a made up group called "highly likely". It is the same group that sings the theme for "whatever happened to the likely lads".

reply

I read somewhere it was written by Either Mike Batt(Wombles) or Mike Hugg(Manfred Manns Drummer)

"Just my way of getting through the day, the samaritans were engagged"

reply

Yes they were both written by Mike Hugg. But they were recorded under the name of "Highly Likely".

It does fit brilliantly - there's a little synthesiser swirl right at the end which takes on a really sad meaning when you think it's the last we were to see or hear of the Likely Lads.

Love the series and the film. There were only ever three really successful cinema outings for sitcoms: Dad's Army, Porridge and Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?

reply

Don't forget the 2 Steptoe films, or the On the Buses trilogy. In my opinion they were better than the series that spawned them

reply

You are right- great films of great tv seres- other seem to fail due to the exgtra hour of material needed. the new Dad's Army film is not a touch on the original with the new actors trying too hard to be the originals.

reply

Along with the two Steptoe and Son films, it's the best spin-off film from a sitcom.

You're a creature of the night, Michael
