They said they could not kill even to protect themselves but they never said what would happen if they tried?

I am pretty sure they have killed without meaning it. In "The blue and the green" they put the whole planet to sleep. How many people were driving on the motorway or flying a plane when they would have fell asleep at the wheel. It must have killed hundreds.

Once one of them tried to kill (to defend someone) but could not. That would mean they could not KNOWINGLY kill someone.
