Favorite Brittish Comedys - post your top 10

Hi,

Can anyone post a top 10 of the best British comedy series ever ?
I find it pity that they release a 'UK Region 2' dvd with no subtitles at all, also the boxset is without.

Why do Brittish always want a 'uk only region 2'? The serie keeps selling, would be nice worldwide. Region 2 is Europe normally with subtitles for all European Citizens. I hate 'UK Region 2 dvds' :(

Try Tommy Cooper, the guy was not in anny series i think...but boy, was he funny!!!

reply

Of course i remember Tommy Cooper; i quite enjoyed his antics back in the day.

But he wasn't in anything remotely resembling a sitcom, so i didn't include him.

I’m an American… here’s every British (and Irish) sitcom I’ve paid any attention to, sorted by preferences.

1. Faulty Towers
2. Yes, Minister
3. Blackadder
4. Monty Python's Flying Circus
5. The Peter Principle (Immensly underated show... in the US its called “The Boss”)
6. The Office
7. Father Ted
8. Red Dwarf
9. Young Ones
10. The Brittas Empire
11. Chef!
12. Absolutely Fabulous
13. The Benny Hill Show

Tried to watch only fools and horses a few times.. .couldn’t get into it, although I hear it got better after the 3rd season so maybe I should start there.
Tried to watch Bottom a couple of times… one of the most painful experiences of my life.

I really wish I could get ahold of Whoops Apocalypse.

Choose your signature quotes carefully…. They could be misinterpreted (you moron).- drwho

I
Only Fools & Horses
The Royale Family
The Office
Phoenix Nights
Fawlty Towers
Red Dwarf
Ab Fab
Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
League Of Gentlemen
Peep Show

but Father Ted is my absolute favourite comedy ever although it's technically Irish.

Fascists dress in black and go around telling people what to do, whereas priests... more drink!

I love the following shows:

Fawlty Towers

The Office

The Jonathan Ross Show

Little Britian

Keeping Up Appearances

Some Mothers Do Ave 'Em

Hi-De-Hi

'Allo 'Allo

I'm Alan Partridge

And.... Last but not least

Worzel Gummidge (which no-one has mentioned. I know it's technically a childrens show but it's hilarious! I own the box set).

But Jonathan Ross and Ricky Gervais have to be the funniest comedians on the telly! And when they're together they're superurb! You can tell they get on well personally as well.

Why is there always somebody who doesn't understand "Top XX" ... and always feels the need to post every other comedy he knows, as if it brags about his knowledge.
