Remastered version with English subtitles?
Is there a possibility of a remastered version w/ English subtitles? Sure would like to trade in the grainy tv version currently out there. What a great show! It deserves to be remastered.

shareRUSCICO has it ($60 for 6 DVDs, remastered, English subtitles) http://ruscico.com/dvd.php?lang=en&dvd=398
BTW, the originally B&W series has just been colorized in Russia (in an international cooperation), and the audio cleaned up.
There were also, apparently, numerous cuts, including removal of much dialogue, that ended up shortening some of the episodes by as much as 20%. Most Russians who have seen and loved the original version aren't very happy - the colorization has been compared to dubbing Charlie Chaplin's silent films.
shareIn new colour version, they did as if "wide-format screen" - they just cutted an image at the top and at the bottom... the cutted stuff are, maybe, 25% in total (from an original one).
The B&W original version is preferable, no doubt...
Actually, the Russian Wikipedia lists many instances of cut footage, including, apparently, a number of notable moments and lines that had become cultural catch-phrases in the USSR. In general, it seems that it's safer to stick with the original B&W version for authenticity. I don't know if it's possible to find English subtitles for it, though.
