Pint of cooking

I know that when selwyn froggit asked for his pint of beer in the pub that he always refered to it as a pint of cooking, but i have been watching "man about the house" and tonight i watched one, which was series 5 episode 2 called "right said george" in which robin asked for a pint of beer in the pub and also refered to it as a pint of cooking.

Was there really a beer called cooking or were they just copying what they were doing in "oh no it's selwyn froggit?.

Seems strange to me.

the term "cooking" was often used to refer to a pub's basic/cheapest beer. in other words it's only suitable for cooking, not for drinking.
