Yeah I'm watching it right now. Not impressed so far though.

I just listened to the speech scene in the Commons toward the end, where he heckles the Salisbury government. I can't fathom why Simon Ward put on a Churchill-imitation voice at this point of the picture when he'd done nothing of the kind earlier. Yes, it's "Churchill's First Speech in the Commons" but, dramatically, the imitation just isn't called for.

What's more, the voice sounds less like Churchill and more like a cheap JFK imitation very much like Mayor Quimby from "The Simpsons."

My parents told me they watched part of the film and found the Churchill impression annoying too.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with it; the film had enough other problems that I could overlook that one.

Yes, watched it and as a Churchill admirer really enjoyed it. Wish that it could be put on DVD in the US soon.

Thought Simon Ward was convincing and quite good as the young Churchill. Still my favorite Churchill portrayal is probably Albert Finney in 'The Gathering Storm'.

Was this the version with the dream scene at the end where an old sleeping Churchill talks to his father ? I remember it vividly from seeing the film in 1972 yet inexplicably it's cut from all current DVD's. It makes no sense as it's a very moving scene

reply

No. It still does not have that scene at the end of it. I have never viewed that scene. I'd really like to see it. Wish someone would put it on YouTube.
