Young Winston DVD

Can anybody shed some light on the possibility of a quality DVD of this film in its original 157 minute form? It's astonishing that a film that did well on its release and which has such a superb cast (a vertiable 'Who's who of notable British actors) has not been made available. Would Lord Attenborough please tell someone to get their act together!! And please, please don't make do with a stupid cut down version without a full commentary or supporting feature (even if it is just a long interview with some of the surviving cast and crew).

Just an FYI: I know someone who is now remastering "Young Winston SE" for Sony. Don't know when DVDs will come out, but keep your eyes open!

Play.com has it listed for February 07, but then it had it listed for two earlier dates--Sep 05 and early 06--only for it to drop out… fingers crossed.

Its now adverstised in this months 'Empire' magazine as released on 7th February 2007. Not sure what version this will be, hopefully it will feature the GHOST sequence at the end of the movie. Also we hope it will be an anamorphic widescreen version.....

The film was released on DVD today by Sony in Germany in a 147 minute long version. :-) If you want to look it up, the German title is "Der junge Löwe".

So was it established if the German version of Young Winston has any of the cut scenes ? I'm think particularly of the dream scene at the end , which I can still remember from 36 years ago.

reply

According to a review on Amazon, the German version does not include the dream sequence.

Thanks. Crazy isn't it? It's a very important & moving coda, I can't see why it was cut. Any ideas ?
