Where can I get a copy of this film?

I really want to get a copy of this film but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get either a video or DVD of this?
thanks

I've just ordered a copy from cdquest.com

I have received my copy from cdquest. However it is in Region 1 format so only of use in the USA. So far as I know, it is not yet available in UK format.

I found a website that is very helpful - www.moviepursuit.co.uk. If you go to the movie requests thread, there is a chap there who copied La Vallee onto region 0 so, where ever you are, it should play.

If you just want to SEE the film and don't care so much about owning it, someone's posted the entire film on YouTube. Enjoy!

reply

Great! That means I can watch it at work too!

I bought a Region 2 DVD of this film yesterday for €5 in Köln (Cologne, Germany), released by Red Planet GmbH, Köln. The transfer is quite good-- does justice to Néstor Almendros' cinematography-- and the original soundtrack has been remastered to 5.1, with optional German subtitles. But it seems that some beautiful sex scenes that I can still recall from seeing LA VALLÉE in the 1970's or 80's have been cut, particularly one between Michael Gothard and Bulle Ogier. My suspicion is confirmed by the running time of the DVD-- 101 minutes instead of the 106 given elsewhere.

Yep. I've seen the scene you're talking about when the movie was projected uncut in a cinema near home. It is actually pornographic, but in a very nice and fitting way. Animal-like or hippie-like copulation, but not obscene at all. Totally appropriate for the spirit of the movie and of the times. But it makes all the difference in the world between an R and an X rating !

So before I go and buy that one, I'd better check whether the whole package is there. I hate cuts, especially when I have seen the cut before !!

Since the time difference is -4%, I suspect it is not due to cuts, but to 4% PAL speedup, which happens when 24-frame-per-second (FPS) film is transferred to 25 FPS PAL video.

Is there any writing published somewhere about this act of censorship?

reply

Netflix has it.

The BFI have released the film on Blue Ray & DVD in February 2011. It is the complete uncut version and includes the original and theatrical endings. It should be noted that the endings are only subtly different from each other. The print is gorgeous and in the correct ratio.
