Small Masterpiece

I'm pleased to see that people are finally getting hip to what a surrealistic masterwork this is. It's a unique and inventive film that is truly deserving of much greater attention. It reveals more subtleties and shadings with every viewing. Imaginative direction, wild fantasy sequences and an admirably restrained lead performance equals one thought provoking cult classic.

Masterpiece?? Hardly. The film is pretty much a mess, but unique and fascinating
in certain scenes. The film meanders way too much, and is now so dated in its
"Ms." era of the frustrated housewife. Some amusing moments, though.

I don't think we are more hip to it than we were then. The film bogged down in sequences, and Streisand's amusing dream/fantasy of fighting with her mother on the floor cannot elevate the entire film. Surreal masterwork or pretentious?
