Question about a death. SPOILERS

I saw this a few times on tv (edited) and have a question. What did the apaches do the younger man they captured at the watering hole? He tried to get away and they strung a rope and knocked him off his horse and they dragged him away screaming. The next question is what happend to the family where the father had 3 kids with 1 on the way? I guess they cut all that out of my versions.

I wondered the same thing. Their was no follow-up on what happened to the trooper who was captured while watering his horse, or on what happened to the Ginsburg family. I think it's safe to imagine that the trooper was killed by the Apaches. I wonder if some scenes were edited out ? These appear to be loose ends.

Come on guys he was killed, no doubt tortured first, hence the screaming. Maybe tied to a tree with a fire lit between his legs to burn him slowly in agony, thats why the other trooper killed the woman then shot himself, to stop both from receiving a horrific death

I think that after the indians captured the calvery man, they hold a fine dinner in his honor. Maybe more like a Catilin with tea and fine white linens. Then they serviced his horse and sent both of them on their way.

Just to let everyone know, I just finished watching the a 1:38:59 version which seems to be the full uncut release.

It didn't show what happens to that particular soldier. It's obviously left up to the imagination of the viewer.

There was nothing shown about the family with the three kids and one on the way either. Nothing being cut out makes me wonder why leave it in. Seems like poor editing to me.

Well, I have the Universal Vault Release that is labeled as 104 minutes and runs 103 minutes and about 30 seconds on my player. It does not show the soldier who accompanied the sergeant getting killed by the wounded Apache and it does not show anything more about the young soldier captured by the water hole or the family with three kids.

I found the quality of the dvd transfer excellent and it is in 16:9 widescreen so glad I bought it as it is one of my favorites and will watch this from time to time.

Could be the film-makers decided there was no need to show what would happen to the young trooper. It was clear by his reaction that he knew what was going to happen. Then if that wasn't enough the fate of the farmer and his wife and the other cavalry trooper should have sufficed. As far as the other family and what happened to that family? Could have been they edited out that scene, it was written, but never filmed because of budget or time issues or the decision was made to leave it deliberately ambiguous. To show how uncertain life could be for people in Arizona in the late 1800's.
