Very good - 4 out of 5 action rating

One of the last old-fashioned westerns before they got weird in the 70’s. A very good, intelligent western and one of Burt Lancaster’s best. Showing off a manly moustache, Lancaster is a scout for a cavalry troop in pursuit of an Indian raiding party led by an Apache named Ulzana. A very intense, thrilling movie with a great plot. 4 out of 5 action rating

You put that very well! Hard not to like this film if you like a great western. In t he 70s westerns started being perverted by weird directorial sentiment. Wayne and Eastood excepted. Take for instance "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid"...

Completely agree. The 70's were an interesting time for all film making, especially westerns/historical. I found this one on Netflix and was surprised I'd never heard of it before. I saw Burt Lancaster and gave it a try and was blown away by the acting, seeing as my expectations were pretty low at first. Loved the scenery and use of ethnic actors. Was surprised at the depicted violence for so early in the 70's, but it was definitely true to the event. Lancaster's ability was great. Highly recommend this if you're a western/historical movie fan of any decade. This reminded me a lot of Steve McQueen in Tom Horn (1980). Man, I wish Hollywood would trash their obsession with comic book movies and tell real stories again.
