This film sucks!

A Total bore, cheap acting, only saw it because I love Peter Cushing but even he was a dork in this one!

Nah, it was alright. No worse than any other Hammer entry from that era, easy on the eye (if you like women), just a bit of escapism.

this film scared me when i was small that old gothic look to it and the horror filled faces in it damn.

No film sucks if Peter Cushing is in it.

except the overhyped, overblown piece of nonsense called Star W...!

Twins of Evil is an Ok Hammer enlivened by Peter and the twins getting their Norks out.

reply

"No film sucks if Peter Cushing is in it".

You obviously haven't seen "The Blood Beast Terror", then. That makes "Twins of Evil" look like "Citizen Kane". Or "The Satanic Rites of Dracula".

reply

alas, Peter Cushing can't 'revive' (!) "Frankenstein Created Woman"!

This film is great if you only have one brain cell. The usual infantile sexploitation dreck. It has no pace, no atmosphere, the men are physically unattractive and the women can't act. Awful.

reply

Way out of line. Peter Cushing is a handsome man.

Brienne: "Any last words?"
Stannis: "The siege begins at sunrise."

reply

gotta disagree with you. it's a fab little film. great fun!

reply

I found it quite enjoyable. Not up to the standards of Hammer's 50's to mid 60's output, but still very entertaining and stylish. Even a really mediocre Hammer such as "Horror Of Frankenstein" is still head and shoulders above 90% of the rest of horror movies going, and Peter Cushing was always a study in perfection. His performance here is in no way an exception. The only genuinely BAD Hammer horror I've ever seen is "Evil Of Frankenstein".....absolutely dreadful screenplay and horrendous "Creature" makeup, even worse than the laughable "neanderthal" creature concept in "Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell" which is otherwise excellent, but I digress. If you're a true Hammer fan you'll probably enjoy "Twins Of Evil" as much as I did.

reply

HOW can people enjoy this crap?

Don't know what on Earth you were "looking for", but it's got Hammer's production values, atmosphere, sets, a story with a plot, beautiful twins, Cushing, etc. Maybe you're expecting Orson Welles? Or perhaps Japanese anime' is more to your liking? How about turning on the TV & watching Springer- is that "you"? Hammer put out a great vampire product, usually WITH the services of Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing, & their other horror movies are also better than average, et al. Why you've bothered to return to ask "HOW" after already badmouthing it (in a decidedly MINORITY opinion), shows you are outnumbered. Give it up! Nobody's FORCING you to see it again, are they? Case in point- I refuse to look at the "new" Pink Panther films, not only because I find Steve Martin unfunny, but he's laboring in vain trying to even REMOTELY come close to the late great Peter Sellers. So I have not seen anything but ads for them- I won't go look at them. If you hate THIS movie so much, QUIT WATCHING IT! But the rest of us happen to LIKE it- & I hope Anchor Bay releases it on DVD soon, too.

reply

Wow! So many GOOD questions to answer.

I was not looking for anything. I did not expect Orson Welles. Yes, I like SOME anime. Springer as in Jerry Springer? Is he still on tv? Not in Norway anyway, oh, lots of ways there.

Why all these silly, irrelevant questions?

Maybe I'm outnumbered, but I won't "give up". And no, nobody's FORCING me.

So you won't see Pink Panther. OK! Thanks for sharing.

I can't QUIT watching it. Saw it once, hated it, and wanted to know why people like this crap.

Perhaps because us Hammer fans don't consider TOE to be "crap". I certainly don't. It was the first film dear old Peter Cushing made after the death of his beloved wife Helen, and as such has a particular resonance for those of us who revere the great man. Cushing manages to make Gustav Weil, evil religious fanatic and sadist that he is - a believable character, and the film is worth watching for his performance alone. But, as others have pointed out here, TOE dishes up all the usual Hammer fare, although the gore is much stronger than usual, and the nudity less overt than was becoming fashionable in Hammer's movies of the time.

If you didn't enjoy TOE that's your prerogative, but I'm puzzled as to why you bothered to watch it in the first place. It's pretty representative Hammer, and if you don't like Hammer films, you don't have to watch 'em!

If they move, kill em!

"Cushing manages to make Gustav Weil, evil religious fanatic and sadist that he is - a believable character, and the film is worth watching for his performance alone."

Exactly. An excellent performance from Cushing - one of his scariest. It may not be a great film but it surely isn't the worst horror film ever made, not even close.

(It's annoying how some people say things like "how can anyone like this crap" as if they just don't get how someone can have a different opiion.)

"I don't need to fight to prove I'm right. I don't need to be forgiven."

So when are you going to reveal to us all the superior vampire movie you have written and directed? It's very easy to sit on your sofa and criticize, much more difficult to actually create something. Twins of Evil is not the best vampire or Hammer movie I have ever seen, but there are some excellent performances, great photography, beautiful sets and visuals, and rich atmosphere. Perhaps modern dreck like Twilight is more your speed. And your critique of TOE—"it sucks"—is rather simplistic, not to mention juvenile. I was going to continue this reply but I thought about it some more and can't even figure out why I would bother to waste any more time on your cretinous statements. Mindlessly negative posters like you should just go jump in a hole and stay off IMDb.

reply

I never once was bored while watching "Twins Of Evil." I thought it was a fine Hammer period piece with high production values. I also enjoyed Peter Cushing's performance.

I thought vampire movies were supposed to "suck"?

Anyone who comes to Twins Of Evil, or any Hammer horror, applying the standards of Battleship Potemkin or The Bicycle Thieves to it is on a fool's errand (though I don't think the OP falls into that category somehow - "it sucks!")

It's hokum - hugely outrageous, enjoyable hokum. It's just what you need after a hard day, like a corny sitcom or a melodramatic Sixties cop show. You just lay back and let it wash over you - you don't sit there frowning with a clipboard, noting errors of continuity or historical howlers.

I have watched this DVD many times. I plodded through Truffaut's Breathless once and now it gathers dust on the shelf.

Awight we're The Daamned we're a punk baand and this is called Carn't Be Appy T'day!

How can it suck with Peter Cushing and lots of nice boobies!!!

Okay fair point.I got this mixed up with "Blood on Satan`s Claw" which has more boobies than this one.

Such an intelligent, profound bit of wisdom; thanks for sharing. Of course, I disagree completely. 34 years after being released, this film is as compelling, interesting and entertaining as ever... no CGI, only practical effects. WONDERFUL,

Um...not to be math Nazi, but 2015-1971=44 years...

And I love this film...another great one in the Hammer catalog, IMO. I like the fact that Cushing is conflicted and had reservations.

Oh, and the women were aces.
