Captain America 2 - The Winter Soldier

Opening Scene of the movie when Sam Wilson (The Falcon) is talking to Steve Rogers (Captain America) after jogging:

Steve Rogers: How long?

Sam Wilson: Two tours. You must miss the good old days, huh?

Steve Rogers: Well, things aren't so bad. Food's a lot better, we used to boil everything. No polio is good. Internet, so helpful. I've been reading that a lot trying to catch up.

Sam Wilson: Marvin Gaye, 1972, "Trouble Man" soundtrack. Everything you've missed jammed into one album.

Steve Rogers: I'll put it on the list.

Interesting. Even most Black people these days don't know about the Trouble Man soundtrack. Strange thing is that it is at least as good the "Shaft" and "Superfly" soundtracks which are conversely well known. Marvin Gaye even included pieces of the album in his live performances. Hurts my feelings when I can't talk to Black people about classic Black music like the "Trouble Man" soundtrack, but they mention it in dumb movies like "Winter Soldier."

tcbdeo,

"The Winter Soldier" is NOT a dumb movie. While it is based on the Captain America of Marvel comics fame, it's definitely the most intelligent and perhaps the best of all the "superhero" movies. Check it out, I think you'll like it... 9 out of 10 on my scale, especially with Samuel L. Jackson's portrayal of Nick Fury. Plus it turned me on to this album, can't be all bad!

I'm sorry, I didn't pay attention to my emails.

I prefer the B-movie Captain America who kills people with his shield.

I don't like it when they change a comic character's race, like they did with Nick Fury. Nick Fury doesn't make sense as a Black man. Black men are not furious.

The first comic movie experiment was with Spawn. They actually kept Spawn, Black. His wife did not marry a Black man, though, as in the comic book. That was the movie experiment.

Call me old, if you will.

If the movie brought you to the "Trouble Man" album, I'm curious to what you feel about it.

Say WHAT?! The Fury that is being currently used is based off of the Ultimate Marvel Universe. HE is black. When in the world did Captain America kill people with his shield? The only time I remember him beheading someone with it was when he killed the vampire Baron Blood.

The soundtrack to this movie may be about the one thing most people remember about this movie. The theme song can be heard briefly in "Seven" (or, if you prefer, "Se7en"): it plays on the stereo when Somerset has dinner at the Mills' apartment.

Hello.

I haven't seen Trouble man, but i just saw The winter soldier for the second time. The winter soldier grew on me. And since most of the script seems very thougt through I got curious if the mentioning of the Trouble man-soundtrack has a specific meaning theme-wise to The winter soldier. Can you please tell me?

reply

To be honest, "Trouble Man", as a movie, is kind of dull. All I know or remember of the soundtrack is the main theme by Marvin Gaye.
