Question about this movie

Hey everyone. I haven't seen this movie or read the book. I'd like to know if Maggie Smith clutches to her purse at one point in the movie.

The reason why I'm asking this is that on Gilmore Girls (2000) there's this reference: "Well, you're holding pretty tightly to your purse there. You look like someone's Tante Flickman."

When I googled this, someone said it was about this movie (or possibly the book). I know that Maggie Smith's character's last name isn't even Flickman, but nobody seems to know what the reference is, so I thought I'd try it here.

Thanks in advance to everyone who might reply. This is a source of confusion for many Gilmore girls fans.

I'm amazed I stumbled across this post. I am a fanatical GG addict and often wondered about this quote myself. There's no mention of Tante Flickman in this movie, and I just finished watching it on TCM. I wonder if this isn't just a generic reference to old maiden aunts? I would also like to know of any GG fan blogs or pages you might know of. It would be such fun to be part of a community of GG aficionados. Copper Boom!!!

Wow, what a conincidence! How strange that an old discussion board said it was a reference to this movie. Tante means aunt in German, and I am German, and I have no idea what it can mean. It's also French for aunt, so maybe there's a connection, I really don't know.

In the scene with the reference Emily clutches her purse, but that's not a thing only old maiden aunts do, right?

I have no idea what is going on in the blogosphere. You can check out the imdb board, previously.tv or lumpypotatoes.com.
