Title of the movie changed?

I saw this movie when it first came out in 1972. I was 10. I saw it with my parents! LOL. At the time, a lot of us didn't know about the birds and the bees at that age, the way kids today do now. And my parents were, and still are, very old fashioned. So they were shocked and very embarrassed by it. I was too! They had no idea what the movie was going to be about.

How times have changed. I seem to remember the movie having a different title in the theater, like "The First Time" or something along those lines. Is it my imagination?

I am not familiar with it known as any other title... especially that "video title" that IMDB lists! I first saw it on local Canadian tv in the early 70's (virtually unedited) and thought it was pretty cool. As a 70's teenager I looked JUST like the O'Connor kid (minus the glasses).

I also saw this film when it first came out and have been looking it on the web for quite some time now. The reason I didn't find it until now was that I too forgot the correct name. In my case, however, I had remembered the title as "To Be a Man".

So perhaps the title never changed, and you and I are just suffering the distorting effects of time. (Actually, I think the reason we both forgot is that this movie just dropped completely off the map after it did its run.)
