it's NOT typical giallo

there's actually good acting here..the music of morricone makes the movie..the storyline is a story u'll find at any murder mystery .. but that what makes..simplicity and really good directing..
while i am a fan of argento films..i was thrilled to find a different italian thriller in another direction.
the twist was good .. and it's all a really decent thriller .

reply

i'd say it suffers from a poor leading man who doesn't bring the viewer into the movie to care about him or his wife or really even catching the killer

reply

comparing the acting in this film with other giallos u'll find it good..because in every italian film i'v seen you have a really good director and awful actors..so to find someone really acting in a giallo that took me off guard..even if it's bad acting..hope you got what I mean.

reply

if you're talking about the lead actor than i have to disagree,
no one's going to watch a giallo for great acting but usually they cast a protagonist who is relatable enough to make the viewer root for him to catch the killer, ie david hemmings in DEEP RED or fabio testi in WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO SOLANGE?,
i just don't feel gianinni was up for the task in this flick

reply

actually..his character was a cop depressed with his job and doesn't think he was suited for it..he wanted it to quit..so if u think about it..he never had much enthuasim to cath the killer till it got personal at the end with his wife..
i think '' maybe '' it was intentional that you get that feeling..in a twisted way maybe gianinni did it really well ..or again maybe i am giving them too much credit..but i rely more to the theory that it was intentional.

reply

Even if is intentional it's not very interesting.

I don't think the lead actor is terrible but he's certainly not good. There are worse examples, however. Argento's "Four Flies on Grey Velvet" is a film directly ruined by the horrible protagonist. Whereas "Cat o'Nine Tails" is lifted above and beyond thanks to a great protag.
