Best of the Genre

Don't get me wrong, I love A Bird with the Crystal Plummage, but this was a suprise, I was in a giallo phase and I expected a typical 70's euro film with a good Morricone score but the intelligence and the mood applied to the film made it stand out, even for those who dont like giallo's I think it would be a good murder mystery. Ok, the deaths are brutal, but they are artistically brutal.

the best?

This film is sadistic (and in a nasty way that other films of this type are not), disgustingly misogynistic (again in way that other films...), overlong, lacking pace...

Beautiful to look at but that's it. Unlike films like (pulling titles from the air) Don't Torture a Duckling, Profundo Rosso or The Fifth Cord this film seems to have been created simply to provide a vehicle for the torture and mutilation of beautiful women.

I disagree with you both.

I did not find it one of the best of the genre. Hell, I think I enjoyed its comedic double bill Weekend Murders more, and then some like Case of the Bloody Iris and Calling All Cop Cars, one very cheesy and the other a hybrid that doesn't become giallo till the final act, seemed to work the mood better. I think it let me down.

On the other hand, I wouldn't call it a vehicle for women mutilating at all. It had sleaze and brutal attacks, but in its defense, the subject matter was certainly welcoming to it. It wasn't exploitative, and it had a beautiful feel to it. Though not as much as many other gialli that I love.

I'd give it 6.5/10. It was good, but not one of my most cherished in this lovely genre.

I didnt like this film much at all. Great idea, but poor execution.

The special effects were very poorly done (a dummy falls instead of a guy off a building, the knife doesnt seem to cut into skin...). Much of the film was boring dialogue. The deaths were definitely not brutal, even for the time. And the characters were pretty bland and lacking personality. The main character didn't feel like leading man material to me...
