Should've been selling heroin
I never understood why the makers of the movie had priest selling cocaine. In the early 1970's, heroin was the big drug in NYC. Cocaine didn't start taking off until the late 1970's and early 80's.
shareI'd be tempted to argue that pretty much everyone knows that Heroin is bad stuff, whereas cocaine is perceived as more benign, since you can walk, talk and function on Cocaine.
But it does seem like coke was big enough in 1972 for someone to make a movie about it, so your assertion is flawed (remember that this movie also deals with a specific subculture in 1972 NYC).
You can walk,talk,function AND make love under the effects of heroin,only high doses produce stupefication.
