Now what I expected

I just saw this after watching Sweetback and Shaft. I was expecting a movie about a pimp who you would want to be. So far it's my favorite out of the 3. The acting was much better and besides the slow-motion 6-million dollar man effect, the ending gave me chills.

I was wrong. Sure, he was a pimp but I didn't know that the whole premise of the movie was him trying to get out of life he was living. He wanted more and didn't want to be a slave to anyone or anything. I didn't see that as glamorizing.

Which is the other thing, I thought the movie glamorized cocaine and everything else. I could see how someone might interpret that. But that's just the surface. Scatter got killed. Priest wanted out. Freddy died. Sure, Priest was "cool" and he appeared to have glamor but that was on the surface.

Sure, Priest had a bad-ass ride, pimping clothes, how women around him but if everything was so great, why would he want out? It paints the picture why he wants out which is why I don't see this movie as romanticizing the lifestyle.
