Was Stephen King inspired by this?

I know King was a fan of horror films, and has talked about going to the drive-in to see such fare "back in the day." I can't help but wonder if this was partial inspiration for his novel (later made into a movie) MISERY?

My guess would be an emphatic YES but it's never been confirmed. King does a thing in Entertainment Weekly so I may write him in care of them and ask.
