This film should be released on DVD!

It's on of Steven Spielberg's first films, I'm sure it would make money!

reply

I WOULD BUY IT IF THEY DID

reply

I can't believe it's not on DVD, it's about the 2nd film of Steven Spielberg's career, and it's pretty damn good as well.

reply

I agree!I saw this when it was first on and loved it. I taped it years ago, when it was on TV, and they cut it up and it ruined the movie. I can't believe it hasn't been released on DVD.

reply

Was this the film that had the wife hearing a baby screaming in the barn late at night? I remember one where she walks to the barn, opens the door and walks inside; she walks around a table to find a glass jar glowing with a red light; she peers down into the jar and screams; the barn doors slam shut...

I can't remember if this is the film. If it is, man was this a scary movie.

Let me know if this was the one. If so, I agree. It should be released.

That is the one! I saw it when I was really young and have never forgotten it!!!
You are sooo right, it is really scary!!!!

reply

Is this the film that ends with the family leaving town, seeing the sign with the town's name in the rearview mirror, seen backwards reading "Salem" (Melas backwards)?

reply

Is this also the one where theres a film crew tpaing a commercial or something in the front yard of the house, they film the front porch or the front of the house and when they develop the film, there are eyes in the windows on either side of the front door? I dont know why, but that image has always stuck with me... sorta like the "JOIN US" part of Evil Dead...

reply

Yes! This is the movie. That image of the red eyes peering out from the window has always stuck with me, too!

Dead link.

Me too! It was so scary (and still is now!) especially since I watched it when I was 9 or 10 years old.

reply

This should be on DVD. I taped it on VHS a long time ago but I was stupid and I erased it! Now I regret it. It never plays on television.

reply

good god its been 30 0dd years and i still remember those glowing red eyes in the window. ABC should release a best of movie of the week dvd series.
so many of these movies scarred me for life as a pre-teen, but also made me a hardcore horror film buff. Im just starting to collect motws from the golden age of the early to mid 70s. in fact, i jst ordered this one from an outfit called cinefear.com. what a joy to relive a better time in movies.

reply

your all right, this is that movie, i had the pleasure of watchin it again finally last night, i bought a cheap copy from ebay, the sound was crackly at times, the picture was vhs standard at best, but it still had me gripped, i urge you to get it if you can, if they clean it up and release it, i will buy it again for sure! awesome movie! i always remember those eyes too, and i totally forgot the twist at the end, which i wont spoil :)

reply

Yes, this is the movie, containing the subject matter that you described. It is indeed scary, and I do agree that it should be released on DVD soon.

Do a search, this IS now out on dvd.

reply

Not officially, and that's what people are after. At least, I am.

reply

Yeah, SOMETHING EVIL has yet to be released on DVD legally. That numbnuts who says it is must enjoy watching 10th generation copies of movies. Yuck!

Re: DAY OF THE ANIMALS:

"Me mighty warrior. Me need no spear". Hilariously condescending.

And missing from the SOMETHING IS OUT THERE print of DAY OF THE ANIMALS.

I still have my old, old Media Home Entertainment tape of DAY OF THE ANIMALS from 1982.

Dear Uber-Geek: It doesn't make any sense to me, either. Especially since DUEL, Spielberg's 1971 TV movie can be EASILY found on VHS or DVD.

And even the 2nd segment of the 3 segments that comprised the 'NIGHT GALLERY' pilot TV movie is found easily enough.

But not SOMETHING EVIL.

Beware of glowing red orbs (if you've seen the movie you know what I mean).

where is this movie!?

When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...

Dear Xcalate: That's a good question. It's too bad there doesn't seem to be a good answer at present.

Good movie, though.

I could very well be wrong, but I thought I read many years ago that Steven Spielberg purchased the rights to this film and has no plans to allow its release on DVD, VHS, whatever. Evidently, he was unhappy with the end product, for whatever reason, and does not wish it to be released on the market. Now how it plays every once in a while on TNT, I don't know. But I thought it was Spielberg's wish for this movie to be forgotten and rarely seen. He's evidently ashamed of it and is uncomfortable with the subject matter. Now I did not make this up and read it somewhere. How dependable the article was, I don't know.

But do you really believe a film directed by Steven Spielberg involving demonic possession, haunted houses and with Darren McGavin to boot, would NOT be released on DVD and video? It's being held back for a reason.

Thanks for the head's up on the YT post. It's a much better-looking copy than what I got (old VHS transfer to DVD). This MOTW from 1972 always haunted me since first watching it as a kid on ABC-TV. It doesn't make a whole lotta sense, but it IS creepy, like a kid's nightmare.

Its available in a multi part format on youtube.
