I didn't like it

It was just too slow and boring for me to enjoy. There were moments of intrigue, mostly near the beginning of the movie where the man gives his testimony of what he saw on the surface of Solaris, but it didn't go anywhere. I was hoping to see this giant kid eventually, but nope.

The whole movie was very confusing, and this was exacerbated all the more by how slow it was. Plot details just ended up going over my head because I could barely pay attention throughout. I actually had to stop and consult wikipedia's plot summary just to know what the hell was going on. I definitely couldn't sit through the entire movie in a single sitting.

I wanted to like it, I really did. The movie actually reminded me of 2001 A Space Odyssey, which I also did not like (but liked more than this). I suppose if you loved that movie, you'll love this, but if you hated it, then you'll prolly hate this one as well.

I expected to really like it myself having read the novel a few times and being a big fan of Stalker. Instead I suffered through it (somehow). I see why Lem hated this adaptation--I'm with him. The underlying theme was entirely different from the novel's, and infinitely less profound.

Amusingly, Lem also hated the English translation of the novel...

Loved Stalker, Mirror and Ivan's Childhood.
Was severely disappointed by this.

I understand Lem said that Tarkovsky had missed the point of the novel. He also called Soderburgh a hack --- wish I could recall where I read this.

In heaven everything is fine.

I saw the movie and then read the novel, I on the contrary to all of you prefer the former to the latter. In my opinion 2001 was a great movie but I don't really like it very much compared to this movie.

Yes, REALLY slow and boring. Dull, incomprehensible and pretentious also.

Btw, did I mention that it was really DULL?

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.
