How does Linus know

In the opening lines of this movie Charlie Brown picks up a rock and throw it back to the ocean and Linus says this

Nice going, Charlie Brown. It took that rock 4,000 years to get to shore, and now you've thrown it back.

Now, how did Linus know that rock took 4,000 years to get to shore, did it secretly tell him?

How do you know Linus knew it?

Maybe Linus is actually an ancient God masquerading as a human being, and just fooling everyone with implanted, fake memories, and has actually observed that rock telepathically for 4000 years.

Perhaps he just remembers seeing that rock advance in every incarnation that he has lived, and he remembers the rock starting to inch towards the shore exactly 4000 years ago.

Maybe he, being a 'booksmart' nerd, has researched these things and according to that research, it takes a rock approximately four thousand years to move from under the surface to the beach, and Linus was making an estimation based on his research.

I can't believe people are asking questions like this..
