Where were Lila's parents?!

I know you never actually see adults in anything Peanuts, but there's just no hint of them ever being with their daughter while she was in the hospital for 3 weeks. She doesn't even mention them. She tells Snoopy in her letter how incredibly lonely she's been. It's like they dropped her off and said "Get well! Call us and we'll pick you up when you're better! Byeeee!" And if they were around more, they could've nipped the whole "I want Snoopy to come back to live with me again" thing in the bud. They could've told her "Helloooo...remember there's no dogs allowed in our building? That's why we had to take him back to Daisy Hill the first time?" Honestly, she must've been really disoriented from the fever or whatever was wrong with her to forget that huge sign on her apartment's entrance. But then again, we wouldn't have had the heart-wrenching plot and glorious climax if Lila didn't have such neglectful parents and absent-mindedness. LOL.

It's actually pretty consistent with Peanuts. Adults are referred to, but never seen. One has to assume they were at the hospital regularly, but they would never have been shown. But yeah, she made it sound as if she'd cleared it with her parents and the whole family forgot.

You'd think with that title they'd have borrowed from the plot of Lassie, Come Home and had her realize he was longing for his boy, and let him go--like the older couple did in LCH.

There actually was a deleted scene explaining why her parents weren't able to go to the hospital and visit her. Sadly I can't find the actual clip, but here was the dialog to the scene:
