This was during a time when writers thought of outrageously interesting plotlines. Pretty intriguing.

It was very similar to the current hit movie THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE with a small group of people trying to escape a disaster and not all making it. I vividly remember this film from my childhood.

True, but "Short Walk to Daylight" debuted on TV seven weeks before "The Poseidon Adventure" was released. The former came out October 24, 1972, while the latter debuted December 13.

Sounds a bit like that "Daylight" film with Stallone a few years back

This was the TV precursor to "Daylight" (obviously). I much prefer "Short Walk to Daylight" myself, which is way more realistic. Stallone's movie -- as I remember -- was a typical overblown Stallone action flick, which isn't to say it's worthless; it's just not gritty realistic like "Short Walk."
