What kind of car is he driving?

Does anyone know the model and make of the car Shaft is driving at the beginning of this movie? I am completely fascinated by the films and music of this era even though was born in the same year this particular film came out! Please respond a.s.a.p. if you can. I am DESPERATE to know for a good reason.

A 1972 Plymouth Satellite, according to the Internet Movie Car Database (http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=69257).

I wouldn't exactly call it a "boring" Plymouth, as for it's time it was one of the more upscale muscle cars along the same vein as a Plymouth GTX or Roadrunner.

The car in question is actually a 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus to be exact, quite a rare car especially considering the way it was equipped for the movie.

The Sebring was the proverbial 'middle child' between the aforementioned Roadrunner and GTX. Adding the "Plus" package got you the GTX interior and the lower body trim and the argent lower body panels. The Sebring could be equipped with any engine in Plymouth's arsenal from the lowly slant 6 all the way up to the 440-4 barrel. I would assume this car at the very least had a 340 or 400 cubic inch V8 engine because of the dual exhaust (318's never got dual pipes from the factory).

What makes the car exceptionally rare is the "suspender" stripe package. Very few cars came with it and even FEWER Sebring Pluses were ordered that way.

Personally, I thought a contemporary muscle car was a great choice for Shaft to drive. He wanted something that was comfortable to drive, flashy and powerful.
I think it a much better choice than the piddly Fiat he drives in Shaft in Africa.
