If nothing else, this version provides more insight to Silver


At the Spyglass Inn, Long John Silver explains what Long John actually means. I don't remember this from the book, and I don't believe I've heard it mentioned in the other films either. But anyway, Long John refers to human meat. I looked it up, and sure enough: Long John (or Long Pork) was actually pirate lingo for human meat. Quite an ironic name for a cook, I'd say

Sure,why do you thnk his nickname among the other pirates was Barbecue?how'd you like to have him serve up a side order of ribs?Of course,you might find the entire concept rather hard to swallow,no?
Did you ever think that anyone as ruthless as Silver might have been munching on a few shipmates if they were ever stuck out on a raft?I wouldn't put it past him,at all.
