please help....

If anyone knows of any way that I can obtain a copy of this movie, please let me know! My mother has mentioned how much she loved this movie and I would love to be able to surprise her with it. But I don't think it was ever put on video...correct me if I'm wrong, please! Is there someone I can write to or call to request a copy, or to get it played on tv or something so I can tape it for her???

Yes, I found it years ago on VHS, the back of the box says 1998 Golden Age Video, with a phone number 1-800-VHS-TAPE. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I don't know when you replied to this e-mail but do you still have the video Sandcastles? I tried the phone number you listed and it didn't go through. I would love to buy your copy if its available.
Thanks
Sandy

I have this movie on a commecial DVD (i.e., an authorized release). It is from Quality Special Products (Canada). It is on a "2 movies on one DVD" release. The other movie is "Born to be Sold" starring Linda Carter. This is an extremely rare DVD. I can't comment on the quality as the DVD is factory sealed. Price is $30 + $3 shipping. If interested, email me at [email protected].

DO NOT.... I repeat....DO NOT buy ac opy of this movie from moviesunlimited.com. I ordered a copy on 12/5, received it today, and am watching it tonight. The quality of the "copy" is TERRIBLE!! Colors bleed, the picture is so grainy, you sometimes can't see the picture. This is ridiculous! If you don't mind paying $15 for a bad copy, then go ahead. Personally, I won't buy from this company again. Buyer BEWARE!

Shaunawolf is correct, the videotape distributor of "Sandcastles" really cheaped out with this release. Golden Age Video was most likely the only one offering to distribute Metromedia Productions 1972 made for TV Tuesday night movie. The copies were processed in LP tape speed on a fairly inferior grade of tape to boot. AND if that wasn't enough, the movie itself was actually the first to be made by recording it to videotape instead of film, which accounts for the movie's grainy/laggy atmosphere. I too was upset after watching the Golden Age tape, which is not even as good as a copy I taped from television waaaaay back in 1987!!! Had this film been a little more popular it may have made it's way to a bigger VHS distribution company instaed of this dud. I wish I could get my hands on the original for digital restoration because this is my number one favorite of all times and always will be. I'll work at it.

Hey Klaatu, If you ever do get a copy that you can restore or that has been restored, please let me know. I didn't think I would ever get to see this movie again....and it is of of my very favorites!!!
Thanks!!!

Count me in also.My mother wants this, as her copy from Movies Unlimited sucked. My email is [email protected].

Absolutely--I too would love a quality copy of this film. But even as it is, grainy and somewhat "dreamy" it is still beautiful. Still, to see JMV, a true adonis in all his glory...well, count me in as well!

Yes this movie "Sandcastles" was shown on Fox movie channel as i had to dvr it to watch later and the quality looks good but different then the movies you see as I guess it was the way it was filmed! Will be my first time seeing it as I try to record all the 70's and 80's rare movies.

This movie was put on a double dvd with Born to Be Sold. If you do a search on Ebay, you'll probably find it. Someone PM'd me with a link to an Ebay listing for it back when I first posted here in 2003. I hope this helps some of you. I'm sure it can be found in places other than Ebay now that you know it's a double dvd. :)

If you know of anyone who gets Fox Movie Channel or if you have that service, watch for it! It's on right now, much to my bliss, and I have a videotape in to capture it for more viewings.

I remember the haziness of it back when it was shown in 1972, and when it was shown late night later in the Seventies, that copy was terrible. But, FMC's copy is vivid, colorful, clear and beautiful! I don't know what they did to restore it, but it's wonderful!

By now, maybe it can be found on DVD, but now it has been added to FMC's lineup, along with such old TV movie treats as "Daughter of the Mind", "Terror on the Beach", "Tribes" and other sadly obscure movies. My hopes are that "The Bermuda Depths" will show up yet.

Good luck finding the movie! I don't know if my information helps.

I just caught the last half of it on Fox Movie Channel,it was great to see it again and yes,it did look beautiful in it's clear videotaped glory. I had seen it several years ago on late night TV and it had been transferred to film so it looked terrible and grainy.

It still has the haunting quality I remembered when I saw it as child. Hershel Bernardi was always a welcome face in 1970s TV and he was fine as the jovial restaurant owner. Bonnie Bedelia was so sweet and sensitive as the young girl she helps make the story work,a lesser actress could have ruined it. Jan Michael Vincent is good as the ghost and Gary Crosby is a memorable and nasty villain.

I just watched this movie on the FOX movie channel. You can tell it was shot on video tape but it didn't ruin the story. Great '70's flic.

I just ordered the DVD from Amazon. I hope it lives up to how I have blown it up in my mind. I did not realize that JMV was 67!!! I think it said his birthday was July 15? My b-day is July 16 & I will be 50...my how time flies, I was only about 10 or 11 when this came out.

I guess I will need to write a review after I re-watch it.
