I just saw this for the first time

I had seen 7 films by Fellini before I saw "Roma" and I have to say this one is one of his most outlandish and flamboyant films. I would classify it in the same category as "Fellini Satirycon". I absolutely loved that Catholic Church fashion show near the end of the film!! It was all so surreal and absurd at the same time.

I certainly would not rank "Roma" up there with some of his other films like 8 and a half or I Vitteloni but I still enjoyed it very much.

I agree. I enjoyed this film but I reckon that it's not in the league of Fellini's masterworks (Amarcord, Le notti di Cabiria, La Strada, I vitelloni, La dolce vita, Giuletta degli spiriti, and of course 8½).
IMO "Roma" is Fellini Tier II. You can pair this one with Prova d'orchestra, Ginger e Fred, Casanova, La città delle donne, Intervista, La voce della luna, etc.

Money is better than poverty, if only for financial reasons.

For me, this film is worth seeing just for the fashion show. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Agreed. I also think it's a modern Satyricon. He even connects the two films by the underground scene!
For me, 8 1/2, Giulietta degli spiriti, Satyricon, Roma and Amarcord are like a series on its own. There aren't bad and good films in this series, just "lighter" films and "heavier" ones.

My fav scenes are the highway (love the old Rome meets new Rome, hookers by the highway and hippies). Also, the closing scene with the motorcyclers riding through Rome. Both scenes are just so fast and exciting.

When this movie first came out someone said oh this is to show people the seedy under life in Rome and when people saw it they said oh we knew about that.

Agreed.

It's epic.

Also loved the theater scene and the night driving in the rain scene.
