Rape = not funny

This movie had some genuinely funny moments. But when the element of rape was introduced I found it quite disturbing. Particularly when the male lead started to slap the female lead around. Did anyone else find this distasteful?

Also what was up with those opening credits with the silly cartoons of what looked like zombie heads and marching Nazis? What did that have to do with the movie?

Clearly you've never seen a Great Dane rape a clown.
Rape is underrated for comedy purposes.

Yuk!

It may be that Bava was touching bases with Kurosawa's Rashomon, which was an obvious point of inspiration for this movie and also involved rape. I found the animated Nazi in the opening credits to be more of a head-scratcher.

Exactly! No one has yet been able to explain that title sequence to me. It has nothing to do with the actual film!
