Mickey Rooney is just gross in this movie

I've seen this movie several times, and I'm always struck at how disgusting and vulgar Mickey Rooney is in it. I mean, the guy is often times way over the top in his movie roles, but here I just want to punch the guy right in the mouth!

From what I've read and heard, Rooney was obnoxious and self-absorbed in real life. Still is from a recent interview I saw.
