Paul Bartel Was OneTwisted, Gifted,

funny man. Liked this better than "Eating Roul', but that is because I felt some of the humor was too forced. The ending of this movie was bizare for 1972.

Check out "Scenes From The Class Struggle In Beverly Hills" if you have not seen it. Maybe not great, but has a number of funny moments.

Paul Bartel definitely was a unique, twisted talent. We could use more like him today. "Eating Raoul" and "Scenes From the Class Struggle in Beverly HIlls" are fun, but "Private Part" is absolutely superb in my book. I wish he had done more horror films and thrillers. This is one weird flick, and the fact that it's almost 40 years old is astonishing.

Read his bio, and surprised that he was not involved in that many movies. His reputation will grow over the years. Genius is often not fully recognized until after death. I agree with you that PP is better than the other two I mentioned. The petite brunette lead actress was very beautiful.

It seems Paul Bartel was mainly known for comic appearances in others' movies and TV shows, usually just bit parts. The other movies he made were very good, but they were more comedies or satires. This one is deliciously dark and freaky, and any laughs it generates are strictly to break the tension.

And yes, Ayn Ruymen was terrific as Cheryl. She seemed to vanish into television obscurity after this and a brief role in "Jaws." She was last seen in Mendocino, according to her board.

It's Bartel's best and best sustained film. The NY Times review of this film from 1972 is very favorable.

Have you seen DEATH RACE 2000?
