spoiler for obvious reasons:

did aunt martha's spirit take over chery's body at the end? remember aunt martha was actually a man and felt that the physical body was a prison, forcing a person to be male or female, but by dying and allowing her spirit to escape and then squeezing into cheryl's little figure, aunt martha would be free to be an actual female and then continue running the kind edward hotel (as long as she convinced the cops she was not the killer),

she also reels off the greeting that aunt martha says to any potential guest she doesn't like the look of verbatim

Either that or the traumatic events drove her insane and she's now a schizophrenic. By the way, are we sure that Martha isn't her uncle? Maybe he became Martha and her "dead husband who got too old to have a child" is actually Martha's wife. If this is the case, then the whole Cheryl's family could be prone to some extreme form of schizophrenia.
