How? What?

-Spoilers-

This is a weird ass movie, left me with some questions. First of all, what was nagging me the whole time, how old is Cheryl? They left hints but didn't nail it down. Like she's 2 years younger then her roomate, and Alice would be twice her age if still around. But they never say how old they are either so that's no help. I'm guessing 14-16. The actress playing her was around 25 if my basic math skills still work. I guess it's not really important, was just bugging me.

The ending, wtf. George is a chick? What? I don't know what the hell's going on there. Is he alice? Just smile and nod is my answer.

I didnt think he was Alice. I thought he killed Alice. I thought he wanted to be a man and killed these chicks out of frustration because he couldnt make love to them like a man? Or did I read that all wrong?
I only saw it once, about a year or two ago and will have to watch it again.

(I think Cheryl was supposed to be about 16)

I know this was posted weeks ago but

Go watch the movie again. Georgie was Cheryl's aunts daughter.

No Alice was the girl George fell in love with before Cheryl, who was staying at the hotel.

"How? What?" Ha, ha! I just know that's the response Paul Bartel was going for! Congratulates, Mr. Bartel; mission accomplished!

Jeff, the boy from the key store and the one Cheryl went to the concert with was 15 so I'm assuming she was that age too, maybe 16.

If George (yes, George turned out to be female) is Cheryl's aunt Martha's daughter, he'd be twice that age. I guess the actor could have passed for 30-ish. He did say to the aunt that she 'ruined' his childhood. I'm going to assume too that he is the aunt's daughter.

Alice is the blonde girl in the photos that's all over George's room that he seems to have killed, or the aunt (who's probably his mother) may have done it.

Cheryl's roommate is the one who said she's only two years older than Cheryl.

Since George is probably Martha's daughter, that means he's Cheryl's cousin...and was spying on her in the bedroom and bathroom. But I don't know if he's Martha's biological daughter, since she said there were other ways of getting a child after she said her dead husband was too old to father one, whatever that meant. Maybe she meant he was impotent.

I'm trying to piece it together, too, but here we go:

In addition to what's been said here already -

Aunt Martha talking about how the body is a prison, and we don't chose how we're born (sick, ugly, man, woman). Her daughter was born a girl, but may have had "gender identity disorder" as we know it today - that is, George felt he was a man trapped in a woman's body.

But, the "you wouldn't let me live a normal childhood" line, combined with "YOU can be my son" from Aunt Martha at the end, leads me to believe that male-ness may have been forced upon George by his/her mother.

But then, the way he injected the water-filled blow-up-doll with his blood. It was VERY reminiscent of male ejaculation. The syringe seemed like a surrogate penis, as well a way for George to get his DNA inside the doll. So then perhaps he is male on the inside and uses this as his release. Maybe his mother made him be a girl in his youth (as his physical gender prescribed) and this is how she ruined his childhood. After all, she is somewhat religious and doesn't seem too open minded about things like gender identity.

Also, if George is indeed Martha's blood relative, it still wouldn't be incest for him to pursue Cheryl. Cheryl came to the hotel looking for her uncle, and found his wife. Her uncle is dead. She's only related to Martha by marriage, and since Martha (presumably) conceived George without her uncle ("there are other ways") then they are not related by blood.

I believe it was Martha who killed Alice. When she was coming after Cheryl with the machete, Cheryl said, "don't hurt me!" Martha said, "it won't hurt. It'll be quick, just like with Alice."

Additional thoughts totally appreciated.

Are we sure that Martha isn't actually her "dead" uncle? Maybe he decided to become Martha and her "dead husband who got too old to have a child" is actually Martha's dead wife.

This would mean that Cheryl is related to Martha and that, if you take the very last scene into consideration, there's some serious inherited schizophrenia in the family.
