A laugh fest (spoilers)

This movie is just for laughs. None of the characters has any redeeming value. Gene Hackman could not wait to get out of there and take advantage of his opportunities from winning the Oscar for the French Connection. Shelly Winters (a beached whale) and Red Buttons seemed to be giving a master class in Yiddish Theater. As usual, Shelly gave one of her over the top performances a perfect companion to Ernest Borgnine's one-note over and over again (now I'm really pissed off!). Maybe I missed it, but was there even one black face in this movie? What a throw back to Hollywood's good old days.

There is one black man standing near the purser in the dining room after the ship capsizes. And one black woman sitting by one of the major characters during dinner.

You are a very poor and deplorable example for our young people today and for adults and you are totally insensitive. A responsible person watches a movie and feels for what the characters are going through and a responsible person teaches young people to do the same.

This movie featured people having died, suffered and many fought to survive. None of the characters had redeeming qualities? You certainly did not pay attention while watching this movie. Two characters lose their wives and they keep on living and fighting to survive despite their pain and grief from their loss. A woman watches the man she has had a crush on die, but she still refuses to give up. A man who felt no one care about him finds that he can help another person not quit fighting to survive. There were plenty of characters with redeeming qualities, even to some extent, the rebellious preacher leading the survivors.

Just curious, did you see this on the big screen?

I did
Great theater experience

TPA was a sign of the time and a good move for that time. If I were to see it again, I may think it hasn't aged well. So what is your point?

reply

It has aged well. Still very watchable.

reply

May give it a shot. Thanks

Sorry to say this, but this is a very typical dumb millennial response. Can't blame them, though, because they were raised on MST3K, so...

reply

I was raised on MST3K. What's your point?

reply

The point is that the generation that grew up watching that show can't enjoy ANY film without finding it "unintentionally hilarious" or "ironically funny." If I had a nickel for every time I scrolled threw an IMDB review of a classic Hollywood movie and saw something along the likes of "a laugh fest" or "perfect MST3K fodder," I'd be richer than Jeff Bezos.

Odd. I happen to like The Poseidon Adventure.

What kind of halfwit cares if there's a "black face" in this movie? What an idiotic criterion.

reply

I really wouldn't call this a laugh fest..it's a bit campy in some scenes but a laugh fest hardly. The acting was leaps and bounds better than the 2006 trash remake Poseidon.

reply

The Shelley Winters fat jokes cracked me up.
