The funniest scene of all time

It has to be that time in Allen's apartment when he's left all the books lying open to look smart and he just does everything wrong or awkwardly.

"I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member."

reply

Agreed. When he is holding the album jacket and makes some gesture with his hand and the record comes flying out, and when he tries to look all cool and nonchalant by leaning on the chair and it topples over. Great stuff.

Garcon! A bucket for Monsieur!

To add to that, you can see Tony Roberts trying to hold in his laughter and Jennifer Salt's shoulders shaking because she can't keep from laughing! I love when that happens to actors. The best!

reply

It was truly hilarious

reply

I disagree. I think his fantasies about Dick's reactions to having an affair with his wife are the best.

If you need me, I'll be at Frozen Tundra 6-9290...

and then the Italian bakery... Il Bastardo. Imbecilio!

reply

Getting the place ready.
Linda: Oh you're joking; you're not going to leave out a track medal.

Allan: Why not? I paid twenty dollars for it.

reply

that scene is the perfect example of allen's neurotic humor. he is both so intellectual yet physical with his wit, like mark twain and michael richards in one paranoid package

reply

I always thought of him as the exact middle-ground between Groucho Marx and Ingmar Berman.

reply

I never thought of it that way, but I gotta say when that record goes flying across the room ... probably my all-time favorite comedy scene, will never forget it. He was GENIUS at depicting the awkward, nerdy guy.

Saw it first run in 1972. The audience roared and kept on roaring through that scene - but the record flying was the biggest laugh.

reply

Oh, and the guy falling off the wall after he pats him on the back is right up there too

reply

He's so great at physical comedy. That scene is a total classic.
