Why no CD?

I have the DVD, but I would sometimes just like to listen to the audio away from my DVD player / TV, on a better audio system and perhaps with headphones. I see that this was once available on vinyl -- why is it not now available on CD?

Why would the copyright owners NOT do this -- afraid of money?

I get that when CDs were a new thing, it was perhaps cost prohibitive to make a new master for something that wouldn't be a top catalog seller, but that wouldn't be true today.
