Unlike Pompeii,I'm Not Addicted To Pulse

I'm a huge Waters Fan.I have nothing against Dave,Nick,And Rick.I feel their contributions during the floyd heyday were just as imporant as Waters's{I know some Waters fans don't feel that way}.However,I was very much looking foward to the Pulse DVD release,as I had never seen the concert before.I never thought I would be so disappointed....but I was.I watched it once and simply cannot watch it again.I guess the thing that bothered me the most was all the back-up muscians/singers.They overshadowed the floyd{didn't think that was possible}and were to much of a distraction.I don't have a problem with guys like dick parry, snowy white{not on pulse},or tim renwick,as they played with "classic floyd" in the 70's...so it's nice to see them play with them again years later.Put carin, pratt, and that nitwit drummer just got on my nerves to badly.they got way to much screen time.I won't even mention the "dancing backups" oh lordy .....just stand there and sing your parts..DON'T DANCE !. I mainly purchased Pulse for the for dark side dvd.I was disappointed by this too.The dark side performance lacked the mood/amabiance of it's namesake. It was to glitzy and over the top cheery. It was like the Disney Co. had taken it over or something.ohhh well, I could go on and on

But I'll shutup now

"Pompeii is just amazing, something you can watch again and again. But i dont think too much of Pulse."

Try being a music teacher and showing both films to 9-year olds. MUCH better reception of Pulse than Pompeii :)

I tried being a 9 year old at one time, although things didn't work out and now I'm 18. I guess it makes sense that I like Pompeii more.

You guys really can't diss P.U.L.S.E though, since it has incredible performances of "Time", "Great Gig In The Sky","Us and Them", and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".

Personally, I feel that you're all just being shallow and closed minded. This is a live performance, not a studio session. Roger isn't nearly as needed for the performance as David or Rick were, plus let's face it...Roger's voice deteriorated after the 80s ended due to his unique singing style.

I'm not saying that I don't like Rog, God knows I'd probably even make out with him if given the chance to, despite being a straight male.

I'm just saying that the guys were making the best of what they had left to give, and if you don't appreciate that and don't feel it's real Floyd, then screw you, go listen to Motley Crue, since they're still all orginal members and completely blow.

Aww man.. Now I'm a HUGE Waters fan, but there's NO WAY I could make-out with Him.I could go so far as to give Him a big hug and shake His hand, Sheyt, I'd love to spend a couple of days having a few beers, chatting bass riffs, and just talking to this musical genius.. but making out

My ex-girlfriend was a Madonna freak, and although she said she was straight (I had My doubts!) she said she would sleep with her given the chance.

My current girlfriend's friend once said about Angelina Jolie "I'm no lesbian, but I definately would"!?

Seriously, if you feel you can make out with a guy, and still claim to be straight...well.

All I can add is: I AGREE!

I watched "Pulse" a few weeks ago, which came highly recommended by a friend, and it bored me to tears. Well, that's an overstatement, but it bored me anyhow! The last thing I want a Pink Floyd set to be chock-full of is songs from 'A Momentary Lapse Of Reason' and "Pulse" was full of those *beep* 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' drew me in, but it wasn't long until my interest fell away.

My friend even said, "oh, I didn't realise there was so much 80s stuff on this".

I agree with you Moonweasel on the added dancing backups on pulse! Not Floyd for sure, but Pulse really is all I have for the post Roger Waters, older Pink Floyd for footage! I like it because it really is all I've seen of the complete Darkside set in the later years! And Shine On, by far was my favorite on that dvd! RIP Syd!
And Pompei is the best by far! Not much PF footage of that period! I love LAP! I don't know if we will ever see another Floyd Concert again by the all four with Roger? Plus they are getting along in the years, but ya never know! I'd welcome it! I would love to see some old PF footage released someday...68 to 73 period!

The dancing backup singers on Pulse aren't really new. When I saw them in 87/88 in Philadelphia (Momentary Lapse of Reason tour) they basically had the same set up. It was great to see them... Sure, I would rather see them like they were in Live at Pompeii, and with Roger Waters, but that could never happen now. I mean even if they did tour with Roger Waters now, like at Live 8, it would be no where near as intense as 30somesuch years ago, and probably not much different than Pulse.

I won't say I like Pulse as much as LAP, cause there is no comparison, but I am really glad Pulse is available... Still a great concert by a great band.

I haven't bought Pulse yet on DVD, because I don't believe the fantastic live version of 'Astronomy Domine' is on there?

A terrible shame.

Yeah, I've always felt like that. Pulse is just... lacking. it's dull and lifeless and has no edge... i was spoiled by pompeii and my 70s bootlegs.

it's pretty great next to Delicate Sounds of Thunder though

*shudder*

I love Pompeii, but PULSE has a fabulous version of Comfy Numb on it. A real showstopper.

reply

I have to admit that Confortably numb at live 8 was the version I wanted to hear, as it was intended to be sung.
