What happens in the artificial insemination scene..?

I heard that's the worst scene in the movie.. what's so bad about it though?

I looked on YouTube and other video sites but couldn't find it anywhere and have kind of decided I don't want to watch it. But what was so bad about it that made John Waters regret having made it and made people so grossed out?

What happens is as follows:

I'll just give you the blunt facts rather than explaining the scene as that might put you off even more.

A man pretends to jerk off into his hand (we don't see any graphic close ups of his genitals).
Once he ejaculates, he then sucks up the semen ito a syringe and injects it into the womens vagina - we actually see it going in!

I wouldn't let this put you off though as the whole movie is full of stuff like this. Just give it a go...unless you really wouldn't normally watch a movie like this. A bit of shock value does nobody any harm.

According to all the trivia I've seen, he wasn't pretending to masturbate, he really was, and it is really his semen he sucks up and injects.

Yeah, well, people say Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie were really doing "it" in Don't Look Now too. But as we don't see anything "hardcore" it could easily have been simulated. On the other hand, the scene with Divine giving Crackers "the gift" was unsimulated, so you never know. :)

Channing Wilroy (the servant) played the sperm donor, not David Lochary (Raymond Marble). At the screening I attended the audience (myself included) found it most the most disgusting scene in the whole movie. I read an interview with John Waters where even he said he considered it the sickest part of the film.

The action itself isn't that disgusting (like someone said, it looks rather clinical) it's the context of that scene. It's being done to an unconscious woman in chains who has been kidnapped and is being forcefully impregnated so the child can be sold on the black market. That is all kinds of *beep* up.

It's not the images that is so revolting, it's the disgusting misogynistic context.

Honestly, scenes like the singing ass and the dog *beep* eating didn't bother me, but this aspect of the movie really struck a raw nerve. It's a really low blow for humor. Bad taste my ass, *beep* like this really happens and it's not funny. Overall, I liked the movie, but dammit...

One of the reasons why Divine later executes the Marbles for "assholism."

"May the Force be with you."
"I can do anything. Is America."
