What a two pack!

This and the Heart is a Lonley Hunter Warners sent out together.
Well done. About time.

Rip Torn’s performance is why you should watch the movie.

As for a the story, a little petty in it’s cynicism.

The main character is a lout, and the movie, along with him, seems shocked that he deals with lots of other louts.
Who else would put up with him?

It’s an entertaining movie. I didn't get up once when watching the movie from start to finish; and that only happens to less than 5% of movies I watch so that says something.
What? I'm not sure. I'm not very good with numbers.

Why would this be packaged with "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter," of all films? I like them both, but I fail to see the connection.

I agree that this film cranked up Maury's cynicism to 11, and I can't rave about a country music movie that features so little country music, but the performances and spirit of this movie were strong. Rip Torn is actually a decent singer, but outside of the opening scene, we rarely hear him perform.

I loved the scene with the deejay trying to manipulate him into attending the benefit. Had this focused a big more on the music business and a bit less on the hooliganism, I would have loved this film instead of merely liking it. 7/10 stars.

The scene with the DJ was my favorite scene too. I'm sure that's exactly how it was done back in the day along the backwoods radio trail, Wild Turkey and all.
